REVIVE AFRICA INITIATIVE CALLS FOR MASS ACTION AGAINST POLICE SHENANIGANS
CALL FOR MASS ACTION AGAINST POLICE ESTORTION, MOLESTATION AND ABUSE OF FUNDAMENTAL HUMAN RIGH
PREAMBLE
The role of Nigerian Police Force which was established to maintain Peace and order, secure lives and properties and as well defend human rights cannot be over emphasized if they operate within the ambits of the law.
Today the Police who are saddled with the role of maintaining order, stability and championing the fight against corruption are the ones promoting corruption, indiscipline, extortion, abuse of human right and intimidation of the masses.
At the moment, in Nigeria, the masses and especially road users are more terrified by the Police than the armed robbers,
The Police Now dialy assault, intimidate and extort road users with impunity both within cities and on highways in broad day light. Those who dare to challenge them or refuse to yield, are either delayed for almost the whole day or molested and brutalized. So many citizens have died from these incidents, so many accidents caused by police shenanigans, very many others unlawfully detained, framed and imprisoned for refusal to either bribe the police or in a bid to defend their rights.
No Nigerian adult can claim to be unaware of the above stated and many more excesses of the Police, over 60% of Nigerian citizenry have fallen victim of police high handedness and molestation.
When you report this happening to the Police authorizes, they do nothing about it because they share in their returns possibly. Those who dare to challenge them are dealt with as scape goats.
THE CALL
We must therefore unite as a people, to take a stand against this threat to our freedom and rights by the police. We must lawfully revolt against these misgivings; we must stand up and say enough is enough.
We therefore call on well-meaning Nigerians, civil society organizations, trade unions and non-governmental organizations to join /support us as we plan to lead a peaceful and lawful revolt against Police extortion, intimidation, molestation and human right abuses.
